Databases guide
In this section we'll run through how to work with the Databases data source to get your most important metrics on your dashboard
Geckoboard’s databases data source currently supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL (Azure SQL) and Amazon Redshift databases. Take a look at this checklist to see if the Databases data source will work for you.
Connect your database by hitting +Add widget and selecting the database data source. From here you’ll need to input the following:
- Database type e.g. MySQL
- Connection name - so you can easily find it when adding future widgets
- Host (could be your public IP) and port
- Database name - the name of your database
- Login details for the database
Once this has been done, hit Connect and you’re off. For more detail on connecting your database to Geckoboard, take a look at this post.
If you have multiple databases you’d like to connect to Geckoboard, follow the steps below.
Once your database is connected to Geckoboard you can begin running queries to pull your data into your dashboard.
Paste your query into the pop-up box and hit ‘Run query’. You’ll then be able to pick from available visualizations based on your data. Once you’ve selected a visualization you can update the widget refresh rate and add goals, see below.
If you made it here you've covered everything you need to get you started building widgets with your database. If there's something we haven't covered here that you need help with, please take a look at our Help Center or drop our Support team a message.
