Sharing your dashboard

In this section we'll take you through options for sharing your dashboard, whether that's on a big screen in the office, via Slack or in a link - we've got you covered.

Now that you’ve pulled all your most important metrics into one place it’s time to share your dashboards.

Sharing your dashboards with others can help with the following:

  1. Creating visibility of key data within your company or with external stakeholders such as investors
  2. Allowing others to take action based on changes they witness in the data on your dashboards
  3. Building a culture of data awareness
  4. Becoming a data driven organization

Here are some of the best ways to share your dashboards and hopefully witness some, or all, of what we’ve described above.

A share link is a URL that will open a view of your dashboard in any browser. To create a share link, hit the ‘Share’ button in the top right corner of your dashboard and then generate a link.

One of the best ways to ensure your dashboard gets seen is with regular snapshots sent via email.

Invite email addresses to receive snapshots

Hit the Share in the top right corner of your dashboard and go to the Email tab. Here you can add email addresses for those you'd like to share your dashboard with. For each email address you invite, the invitee will need to accept via email to allow snapshots to their inbox. Once the invitation has been accepted email snapshots of the dashboard will be sent on the basis you’ve scheduled.

If they go missing, check your spam folder and mark ‘not spam’.

Scheduling email snapshots

Select when you’d like your snapshots to be sent via email from daily, weekly or monthly.

If your company uses Slack then sending regular snapshots of your dashboards to specific channels is a great way to keep everyone in the loop with the metrics you’re tracking.

You’ll need to set up a connection between Slack and Geckoboard but once this has been done for the first time you’ll be able to schedule snapshots of any dashboard on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

Connecting Slack and Geckoboard

Hit the Share button in the top right corner of your dashboard and go to the Slack tab. Here you can connect your Slack account. In order to share your dashboard to Slack you'll need to have created a shareable link first.

If you’d like to share snapshots to private Slack channels you’ll need to connect your account and then go to the channel and type /invite @Geckoboard to invite the Geckoboard app to the channel.

Scheduling Slack dashboard snapshots

Select when you’d like your snapshots to be sent to your channels from daily, weekly or monthly in the same way as shown for email.

Getting your dashboards up on a big screen or TV in the office is a sure way to raise visibility of metrics and department performance.

The best way to do this is with a Smart TV or a TV with a device such as a Chromecast or a Raspberry Pi.

Here's how to use our Send to TV function:

  1. Open a browser on your TV and type: gbrd.tv
  2. A passcode should pop up in your browser
  3. Go into your Geckoboard account, on a separate device and hit ‘Send to TV’
  4. Hit +Add new screen
  5. Enter the passcode and connect

If you’d like to keep your dashboards password protected then adding view-only users is the best way to do this. Add view-only users to your Geckoboard account and they’ll be able to login and view your dashboards but will not be able to edit or amend anything.

Here's how to invite view-only users to your Geckoboard account:

  1. Hit ‘People’ on the top right corner of your dashboard
  2. Add the user’s email address and make sure you’ve selected ‘View-only’ from the dropdown
  3. They’ll get an email invitation from you asking them to join your Geckoboard account

If your team spends a lot of time in another tool then embedding your dashboard here will make sure your most important numbers get seen. In most cases this can be done using your dashboard sharable link and iFrames.
